Merge

Written by Neil Labute
Directed by Joe Pukatsch

Neil Labute's Merge dissects a discussion between a husband and wife...where a discretion may have occurred while she was at a business convention.  A simple car ride presents a twisted weaving of semantics, infidelity and alcohol that merges into an uncomfortable conversation that casts doubt on the wife's recollections and intentions during a late night encounter with some fellow conventioneers.

Dusk

Written by Terrence McNally
Directed by Gillian Prince

Dusk  is anything but in the dark, illuminating the truth of people's  lives as they struggle to keep up a front against society.  Originally writing for the three-play festival By the Sea, By the Sea, By the Beautiful Sea, Terrence McNally creates three quirky strangers and lets them loose on a beach at dusk for what becomes one of the most interesting evenings of their lives.  Willy, your typical "man's man," attempts to persuade newfound acquaintances Marsha, who is not always "with it," and Dana, who will bite your head off without warning, to join him for a "memorable" evening on the beach, but what ultimately happens is memorable in a way that goes against any of his original plans.  McNally's beach at dusk setting makes the perfect place for the onion layers of truth to peel: as the realistic light slowly fades, the figurative one takes over, leaving the three rich characters with their sharp, witty dialogue vulnerable and at the same time compelling.  This beautiful, funny, touching piece is a hidden gem of the theatre lexicon.

Tone Clusters

Written by Joyce Carol Oates
Directed by Michelle Cullen

Emily and Frank Gulick are interrogated by an unseen tv interviewer about the murder and rape of 14-year-old neighbor Edith Kominsky. She's been found dead in their basement. Their son Carl has been arrested for the crime.

How, as the interview might put it, d
o they feel? Tone Clusters is the harrowing answer. The respectable couple contort reality in a desperate attempt to make it conform to their central tenet - Carl must be innocent.
